Libel and Defamation

Libel is injury to reputation. (slander)

Defamation happens when a statement was published to others by print or broadcast, the plaintiff was identified or is identifiable, actual injury, publisher malicious or negligent.

Invasion of Privacy

  • Employee Newsletters
  • Photo Releases, Product publicity and advertising
  • Media Inquiries about Employees
  • Employee Blogs
  • Virtual Online Communities

Copyright Law – protection from unauthorized use.

  • Fair Use vs. Infringement – give credit to source.
  • Photography and Artwork – owns item, but cannot make copies.
  • Work for Hire – worker creates something the copyright is the companies.
  • Downloading and Uploading material from the Internet

Trademark Laws

  1. Proper adjectives should be capitalized
  2. Should not be pluralized or used in possessive form
  3. Never are verbs.
